3 Ways to Intentionally Build Good Money Management Habits

Anyone else feel like their bills just don’t care?

Me: meticulously plans and budgets every dollar

Unexpected bill: HEY GIRL HEY! Here to derail your plans

Bills, particularly those pesky unexpected ones, really don’t care - so we have to be prepared! That’s why good money management skills are essential, especially to stay on track with your financial goals when the unexpected bill derails your plans. Here are 3 ways I’ve been working to intentionally build good money management habits:

💰 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘆 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀: This one is critical. Can you believe there used to be a time when I didn’t know exactly how much student loan debt I was in? I was living the whole “out of sight out of mind” life. Before I could really improve my money management skills I needed to know my numbers: the good, the bad, and the ugly - my debt, my income, my living expenses, etc.

💰 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: It’s important to create a system to help you manage ALL your finances (budgeting, student loans, investing, etc.) For me, this is the “finances” folder on my phone which houses some of my favorite apps to manage my finances (I’ll be chatting about one of them in my stories today 💙👀). I prefer digital over paper but there’s some pretty cool financial organization workbooks out there if you’re a paper person.

💰 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿: It’s important for me to regularly sit down with my full financial portfolio and see how I’m doing. What’s my projected income for the month? What are those bills looking like? I review my budget weekly and monthly to ensure I’m on the right track towards my short and long-term financial goals.

Friend, the bills never stop. They don’t care what you’ve got going on, what plans you’re making, or what goals you have. Listen, even debt free billionaires get bills! It’s just a fact of life. So we have to be prepared for them and that starts with building a solid foundation with good money management habits. I mean after all...it is an IADL right 😉💚
